Of parks, rocking horses, and doting grandparents

So Kadin is becoming increasingly talkative and less like a fetus (Tonia LOVES me comparing him to a fetus) over the last few days, thanks in large part to the brain enhancing regiment his grandmother has put him through.

Some highlights:

1 - He can count to three, sort of. When you say one, he says "too". When you say two, he says "thee". When you say three, he squeels and tries to tickle you.

2 - When you say Thank You, he says "tan oo"

3 - When going outside with his Nanny and Poppy earlier, he said "I ouside"

4 - He says DUCK a lot. He used to curse before. We like DUCK better.

5 - He says 'ot'. Tonia says he's saying "hot", but sounding like he's from Grand Bank. Apparently that's funny if you're from Newfoundland.

6 - When I say "AAAAAAAAAAAAGH" he says "AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE". Ask me about it, it's really funny. Really.

7 - When you say "CHEERS", he clinks his glass against yours. Then he forces you to repeat the process until you want to rip your own eyes out.

8 - When you say "Give me a kiss", he leans his head forward and presents his cheek for YOU to kiss HIM.

9 - When you say "HIGH FIVE!", he puts his hand up and lets you high five him, over and over. He doesn't actually do anything other than hold his hand out, but we consider it a skill nonetheless.

10 - He peed on my pillow this morning. Thanks Kadin.

Kadin enters the digital age, and Hasan & Tonia have an adult night (not THAT kind of adult!)

Santa was kind this year (though he did make me visit Futureshop at 5:23 AM on Boxing Day) and provided us with a nice new digital camera (Canon Powershot A85), so other than scanning a few remaining packs of film, GOODBYE STUPID UGLY SCANNER!

Here's one of the 300 pictures I've taken since 6 AM.

Now to go back a few days.

Last Wednesday night, Tonia and I were alone for the first time since September 7, 2003. Or at least, it sometimes feels that way! With the best possible babysitters in the world (Tonia's parents) protecting the world from caring for our darling son, we headed off to a fancy schmancy dinner at Maurya, a lovely Indian restaurant in Vancouver.

After filling ourselves to the point of being sick OR MAYBE BEYOND, we went out for a few drinks at Woody's pub on Brunnette. It was "ladies night" there, emphasized by the fact that of the 6 women in the entire bar, one of them was Tonia and 3 of them were waitresses. The rest wore jogging pants and had mullets.

Being the hard drinker that I am, after 2 pitchers of Keiths between us we headed home and talked a lot about how much we needed to pee the entire 3.43 minute walk.

Skip ahead two nights, and we're at Christmas Eve where after hours of setting everything up, we all headed to bed at around 2 AM. After sleeping ALL THE WAY until 5 AM, it was time to get up and start working on the turkey dinner!

I say "we" rather loosely, since Tonia did nearly everything while I kept pacing the hall for some reason, and helped cut a turnip in half. Kadin slept in until 6 AM, and we had a GRAND time opening his 9 billion gifts! Picture and video to be available soon.

Skip ahead to this morning, and at 5 AM I rolled out of bed to hit the local Futureshop for their boxing day sales. Specifically, I picked up this lovely Powershot A85, a 512 MB Sandisk Type II memory card, and 4 NiMH 2300 batteries+charger. By 6 AM I was home, hidden away in the room taking pictures of my feet and the walls.

Not just any foot, but a DIGITAL foot!

A wall. And Ernie. On the wall.

An idea came to me this morning. Kadin will be one year in about 2.5 weeks....WOW!! Holy F!@cking WOW! I wanted him to look back on this (maybe...a big maybe) someday and see what his fav things to do were...so here goes.

Kadin's Favorite:

Book - Zoey's New Bike
Show - BooBah
Outfit - Diaper
Word (this week) - Yeah
Food - Spaghetti
Drink - Water...well formula really but I'm trying to trick him into being weaned
Toy - String..any type of string attached to anything - facinates him
Forbidden thing - remote control
Word to Hear - No...makes him laugh hysterically
Cookie - Pablum Banana
Cereal - Cheerios
Place - Mall (or mommy's arms but we are trying to be fair right Hasan?)
Time to Sleep - 7 pm
Time to Wake - 5 am
Song - Black Eyes Peas - Hey Mama (Hasan says his next word will be Fergie *sigh*)
Commercial - Bouncing red period for Kotex Tampons
Mess to Make - Vasoline in Hair

and finally...

Reason to Cry - No reason at all......

And the debate rages on..

I guess its the same for everyone with a baby. Who does he or she look like? And the answer is always the same. From my side of the family for example "Oh Kadin looks just like you.", and from Hasan's "Kadin is just like Hasan when he was a baby." The debate rages on and we continue to compare pictures.

I'l post mine another day.

Whatcha think?

NOTE: Please keep in mind that Hasan is like 2 years old here.

Babies dig malls

Today we decided to throw caution to the wind and feed Kadin some McDonalds. Ok, maybe not.

Actually, we took him to Metrotown to shop for his first Halloween costume; A teeny, tiny bee suit! He's following a proud tradition of Halloween dressing up, started by yours truly. Look here.

We still have to determine what exactly we're doing on Halloween, other than (of course) showing off our wee little bumble-bee to the WORLD.

Too many aunts, too little baby!

Today Kadin met my cousin Maleeha and his Dadi's (Urdu word for grandmother, in this case used for great-aunt's) Popy, Chubbo & Roohi. It was an absolutely wonderful time! They just went nuts over him! Maleeha had her fair share of baby-madness as well, mind you.

Kadin made out with some excellent loot: Ceramic letters spelling his name, several great outfits (including a nice vest & his first tie!), an Ottawa Senators track suit (heh), a hand knitted blanket, a nicely framed picture of his Maham & Zahrah Phuppo (Urdu word for aunt) , and a generous contribution to his education fund.

Although Tonia & I spent a great afternoon just hanging out with them, it was clear Kadin was the star attraction. Hell, he even had his Dadi's fighting for the right to change his diaper!

The afternoon finished with Kadin taking a luxurious nap in a soft hotel bed. We'll be sure to be spending more time with his Maleeha Phuppo and assorted Dadi's before they leave on Monday.

Farmer ... Kadin?

So today we have Kadin dressed up like that guy from the Aerosmith "Crazy" video. You know, over-alls with no shirt on? Only, with a 6 week old baby the effect is decidedly different. Damn cute though.

He is getting extremely vocal now. Not just his crying or fake crying, but making a significant amount of coo-ing sounds. Even his poo grunts sound much more involved, like he's really trying to say something, ya know?

This is a very exciting week for all of us, since my cousin and three aunts are coming in to town to meet Kadin and Tonia for the first time (and they might say hi to me as well!).

Kadin's coming to the end of his short nap now, so I should take advantage of this free time to...oh I dunno, go to the bathroom?
