Fall into Winter

Wow it has been too long since we posted, and there is so much to write.

Declan is a strapping young man now. He has changed so much since turning one it kinda boggles us.

Declan now clearly says Mama and Babu, he also makes some very clear attempts to say cheese. His walking, although wobbly, is so good now. He runs around here and follows Kadin everywhere. And since he started walking he always gets up from sitting to do it.

Declan's looks have changed. His face is more little boy now then baby and we cannot believe how quickly it happens. Although I do remember the same thing happening to Kadin at this age.

Declan loves to give hugs and shows you this when he runs to you smiling and lays his head in your lap or clings to your leg. He is also a frequesnt kisser and most times will open mouth kiss but other time he simply offers you his forehead or cheek to kiss.

Declan still has a fierce attachment to Hasan and also with Kadin. When the big boys play Declan refuses to be excluded and can be seen falling to the floor next to them when they wrestle or trying to play a tickle game.

He has tried biting but seems to really respond to us telling him not to . As a matter of fact this is an area he does well in. Most times I can say no firmly with his name and follow it up with a "Come here...' and he does. He will stop getting into whatever it may be and come right over. Together we celebrate the acheivement with claps and dancing.

Oh did I mention Declan jumps now? Yeppers! Its a little game we play - me directing the jump and him trying so hard to get those little chicken legs off the floor, laughing and giggling the whole time.

And just to end the Declan run down no he still does not sleep. He has a nap in the morning around 9ish for about 40 minutes and then one in the afternoon around 2ish for maybe an hour. We put him to bed at 7, only because at that point he is a mess. Most nights he sleeps till 10:30 or 11 and then he starts getting up. About 6-7 times until well after 12. Throughout the night he still gets up a little here and there and most mornings he is out of bed at 5:30 6. *SIGH* Deep deep *SIGH*.......its real hard and exhausting.

Hasan has been the hero here and sleeps with Declan at night. We had to take D out of the crib after the neighbours said they were wearing ear plugs, so Hasan and him have the queen size bed and Kadin and I are usually found in our king bed. We all come together in the morning. Rough. But alas this website is not about my marriage! haha So I digress.

And Kadin well he is a very typical 4 year old. I spend a lot of my days hearing the same thing "Mommy look at this." "Mommy watch this" "Mommy look what I can do." And listen Hasan can attest to this, Kadin says this at least every 5 minutes.

There are movements and dances that come out of him unlike anything I have seen. Well there is something similar...do y'a ll remember Elaine from Seinfield? Her dancing skills? Well picture that. But sometimes it isnt dancing he wants to show me but a fighting move he has made up or some new crazy awkward 4 year old pose he is holding and has been for 10 minutes. Its intense.

I know every mother says this I am sure but Kadin says mommy about every 5 minutes. Its growing on me...I guess. :)

I have a few Kadin stories as well. Last week he was telling a silly story and said to his babu "When you were a baby you pulled my hair." Hasan responds by saying "When I was a baby you were still a long way from being born." Kadin laughs and replies "Yes yes. I was just in your and mommy's head! I know dat!"

This weekend Kadin started his new level of swimming lessons and I have to admit there were hiccups. Kadin is a bity of a roamer when he shouldnt be and at one point the teacher was taking high fives and throwing herself back into the water to make the kids laugh. Kadin saw this and wanted to be a part of it so he went underwater, came up and pushed the teacher underwater. *sigh* That was hard to see. But he was spoken to about it.

After the lesson we asked the young girl teching the class how he did and she said "Good. But he would not put his head underwater. He said he has glass eyeballs and if he gets them wet they will explode."

Hasan and I just looked at each other, speechless, but we just couldnt help but laugh. His imagination knows no boundaries.

He has a little morbid sensibility like most kids do at this age. I emphasize LITTLE! Relax grandparents! ha

For example "Johnny died when I was a kid." Ok well... I dont know Johnny but that's too bad Kadin. Or the other day when he jumped on a flower bed he had seeded and sang out 'I am busting up the babies." He likes to use the word died or dead or whatever other word comes in that form, probably cause we overreacted the first time he said it, but now we don't react and simply reply with interest.

Kadin helps me cook just about everyday now. He absolutely loves it. He has burned himself a few times, even though he knows the rules of helping cook, but nothing that has kept him from coming back. I try to find every way I can to include him. I love to cook and I hope the boys can learn to at least enjoy doing it, even if it is just for themselves when they are on their own.

Kadin is doing very well in school and truly loves it. The excitement for school starts the night before and he is brimming when he wakes up. I can just about get him to do anything if I use school as currency!! I mean school as currency? Now we have to find a way to keep that excitement up for ahhhh...like 20 more years! :)

And now for pictures.

A little brotherly love. The boys actually play very well together and Kadin is very good with Declan.

Declan likes Daisy much more then Kadin ever did. Kadin is only just now starting to play with her but Declan can follow her endlessly around the house.
