So we leave for Newfoundland in two days. Its a bit scary this time round. Two kids. We are doing an overnight flight for the first time. We thought it best. We are real tired of the 3 am arrival in St. John's. This time we arrive lunch time. Nice. And well the hope is both boys sleep through. heh
Declan is growing leaps and bounds of course. Something about the Hai/Hanrahan blood mix. He stands on his own easily and is now climbing onto Kadin's table. His upsets have lessened as he has gotten a lot steadier on his feet. He follows Kadin everywhere even now and anything and everything that is a chocking hazard is placed in his mouth.
Alas he still is not sleeping. Declan sleeps the most during the day but even then its no more then 2 hours. At night he has one long stretch from 8-9ish to 12ish and thats it. Otherwise he is awake just about every 2 hours. Its rough. After Newfoundland changes will be made and hopefully things will improve.
Both him and Kadin have colds now. Of course as we are getting ready to travel. It seems to pass quickly though.
Speaking of Kadin he is the king of daycare. He has been going for a few weeks now and almost explodes with excitement when we tell him the night before he is going. He loves it. He is playing well...I should say better. At first the girls did not like him much, but it appears he has won them over...apparently by obeying every rule. But whatever works right? :)
Kadin has also adopted a curious habit of repeating back what you are saying to him, as you finish saying it. Whats unique about this you might ask? He whispers it. For example if I say "Babu is coming now and we have to meet him in the driveway." The second I complete the sentence Kadin says in a low whisper "....in the driveway."
Hasan says he is tasting the words and learning vocabulary. I agree but its also oddly amusing and annoying.
I think I should start to put up quick little videos. There is honestly no way for me to use words to describe the things that can be found coming out of Kadin's mouth.
The other morning the entire Hai clan was in bed and Kadin and I were play fighting. He grabbed my face and said "Ok now kiss babu." I asked why. His response was to grab my face and kiss me, moving his head from side to side. He released me giggling "Ok like that. Now you. Kiss babu." Hasan and I nearly peed our pants.
We are all excited about the trip and pending an outbreak of West Nile, we should be all ready to go Thursday night. Wish us well. I cannot wait for Declan to meet everyone.
And now for pictures.
Speaking of Declan here he is in the early stages of standing. Its when splits, screaming and crying were an hourly occurance.

Yes like his brother Declan too is a rock star.

I believe Kadin gets the eye disappearing smile from me.

Declan is not easy to feed either. He is either not in the mood to eat or in the mood to play. Little devil. heh Here Hasan attempts feeding him.

Kadin agreed to take these pictures only with Simba of course. The second one, although a little blurry, is definitely my favorite. Also devil spawn. heh

Hasan had a day at the park with the boys. Something not nice was written on the swing, explaining the black mark I put there. Declan ate grass and later threw it up on me.

Kadin played briefly with two little girls from our block. He now calls them his girlfriends.

Declan gettin crazee in his crib. He looks good in white. Declan is actually much darker then Kadin.

Can you handle his drool? Someone is teething. Can you tell?

Hasan lifted Kadin in. Even though he is older Kadin LOVES to spend time with Declan and play with him. He will cuddle Declan with the same heightened emotion we do when D is being cute. Its the best thing to see.

So cute. Kadin was actually showing Declan something and neither could get enough of the other.

Declan ran (by ran I of course mean crawled really....REEally fast...) naked one night and of course chased Kadin into his room. These two will run me into the ground someday.

Big congrats to Lee, Jeremy and Mitchell on the arrival of this gorgeous creature! Welcome Emma!
Please help. If anyone out there knows how to get my 7 month old to sleep longer then 2 hours please jebus let me know. heh This coming from a girl who does not normally react well to advice and or can accept it with any sort of grace (I am learning though....) is begging for someone to tell us how to get Declan to sleep. We have tried everything except ferbering and Im not doing it. We have indeed let him cry a little but it simply escalates and escalates.
Declan gets up about 3-4 times a night and never sleeps for more then 2 hours. When he wakes he doesnt have gas. He is not hungry. Sometimes its his teeth bothering him. In which case a little dose of Orajel does the trick. But normally its really nothing that sets him off. This is worse then when he was a newborn.
This makes everyone tired and a little cranky around the Hai household. But we are managing. Hopefully it will all come together soon enough. And then we can screw it up again when we go to Newfoundland. Yeh! :)
Declan is like any 7 month old now. He crawls like its nobody's business. He can quickly make it across the living room and down the hall before you blink. He sits himself up. And also pulls himself up now onto his knees. I have pictures. He has another position he loves which leads us to believe he will walk fairly soon. Definitely before he is 1.
Declan is very vocal and loves to yell and scream. He is a sweet boy who laughs even at the sight of someone he loves. He is also more sensitive. He cries easily when he falls or has a little stumble. Although that seems to be improving as he gets more use to getting around.
Declan also has a little seperation anxiety. He does not like to be left in a room alone and if he sees you leave him in the room alone he is quickly reduced to sobs. But it will pass too I am sure.
Kadin loves to play with Declan and is certainly toughening him up. Little does Kadin know this will backfire on him in the future when Declan starts to kick his bum! heh
Speaking of Kadin today I include him in this post by telling you about the little words of joy he fills our days with. Kadin is a chatter box and is always found talking to his imaginary friends, his toys, one of us and or the air. The chatter can be logical and about something that occurred that day or it may be a story he is making up on the fly. Something he has become very talented at.
So here I present you Kadin-isms. Enjoy. We do...and he is always surprising us.
Kadin heard telling a co-worker of Hasan's who came by to drop off paperwork. They are outside with Daisy and he says to her as he shyly laughs "I'm Kadin. This our pet dog. Her name's Daisy. We love her."
He also introduces Declan like this to people. "Hi I'm Kadin. This is Declan. He my brudder." And its always followed by this somewhat fake bashful laugh.
Last week after getting groceries Hasan and the boys picked me up. Kadin was out of his booster and a fight ensued between Hasan and him when Kadin insisted on putting the belts together himself. He says to Hasan with gritted teeth "Babu if you don't let me do it I will be sooo mad."
I sat on the floor with him last weekend watching cartoons. I noticed something in his hair and knew immediately it was a booger. I pulled the dried crusty thing from him hair and said "Kadin there is a booger in your hair. Look!" He replied with a know-it-all giggle "Yes mommy. I put it there to keep it safe."
When trying to find a solution a a problem he will tap his fingers on his chin and when he figures out the step to take he always says "Yes! This will do the trick!"
Kadin loves to use the word actually and especially when he is correcting Hasan or myself about something. He again uses that fake bashful laugh and looks at us "Actually Babu mommy said I could watch a cartoon."
Kadin is terrible for interrupting Hasan and I when we are chatting. He will yell "Excusa me! Excusa me!" We try to ask him to wait and he presents us with his hand and says "Just one more word. I have just one more word." Its never just one more word. :)
Kadin has projects now. Projects that Hasan and I must look at and praise him for. Mostly it consists of him gathering things and using his very business like grown up voice to says "Ok there. Yes. Ok. This is it. My project. OK I have to..." And it goes from there and Hasan and stand at his bedroom door in awe.
Kadin understands pretend now especially when it comes to things he sees in cartoons and or things he reads in his books. He is even quick to tell us "Yes mommy. I know. Its just pretend."
He repeats everything inlucding the bad stuff. He was frustrated with having to return to his room the other day after not completing some task. As he stomped down the hall he said "Jesus!" Thanks Hasan!
Last week Kadin amazed Hasan when he saw a dinosaur on TV and said to Hasan "That's the terran-ahhhnana rex right babu? The T Rex." And indeed it was the terran-ahhhnana rex.
Finally Kadin made me nearly pee my pants when Thursday morning he said to Hasan as Hasan was heading out for work. "When will you be home today?" Hasan replied "After work." "Will you stay with us all night then babu?" Kadin asked. "Yes I will Kadin. Alll night." "Ok good," he replied, "I like you babu. heh You're my fah-der." heh"
Thats how he said it. With the little fake laughs included and the strong Newfie accent on father!
We are looking into daycare for Kadin now. I will let you know how it goes. We are checking one out tomorrow right around the corner. Fingers crossed there's no meth lab. hah....*ahem* Kidding!!
Now pictures.
Here he is. Our giant baby Declan. He pulls himself up like this everywhere now. The sofa. Our pant legs. Kadin's table. The bathtub. And he is just about as proud as he can be when he does it.

Hasan took Kadin last weekend to visit horses belonging to another co-worker of Hasan's. Kadin loved it and you can see the mountains in these pics which is nice. And NO that is not a bruise. Its a hickey Hasan put on his face. :)

Here are Kadin and Declan goofing. Kadin insisted I take the first picture before he would give me the second. Kinda morbid hey? It was his posing idea. Just so creative that little guy. :)

This is the other Declan pose I spoke about. He loves to stand up like this and rock from side to side. And of course Kadin following along.

Declan managed to get his hands on a cocoa cup from Kadin.

How could I not post this pic?

Kadin got a scooter at his aqiqa in Ottawa and here he is using it. He was a little hesitant and kinda gave up easily but he wants to do it again which is a good sign.

Declan crawling around grabbing tatties. Kadin took this picture.

Declan's favorite toy. He plays with this for god...minutes at a time before he cries or screams for some unknown reason. No No I'm kidding! He really does love hitting the keys and hearing the music come out.

Here we have Declan starring up at Hasan in the kitchen and then we have Kadin getting in on the action. He is such a funny kid.

Kadin would only take this pic if I gave his ball a hug and took a picture of it.

Declan in a little hard hat of Kadin's.
