Of parks, rocking horses, and doting grandparents

So Kadin is becoming increasingly talkative and less like a fetus (Tonia LOVES me comparing him to a fetus) over the last few days, thanks in large part to the brain enhancing regiment his grandmother has put him through.

Some highlights:

1 - He can count to three, sort of. When you say one, he says "too". When you say two, he says "thee". When you say three, he squeels and tries to tickle you.

2 - When you say Thank You, he says "tan oo"

3 - When going outside with his Nanny and Poppy earlier, he said "I ouside"

4 - He says DUCK a lot. He used to curse before. We like DUCK better.

5 - He says 'ot'. Tonia says he's saying "hot", but sounding like he's from Grand Bank. Apparently that's funny if you're from Newfoundland.

6 - When I say "AAAAAAAAAAAAGH" he says "AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE". Ask me about it, it's really funny. Really.

7 - When you say "CHEERS", he clinks his glass against yours. Then he forces you to repeat the process until you want to rip your own eyes out.

8 - When you say "Give me a kiss", he leans his head forward and presents his cheek for YOU to kiss HIM.

9 - When you say "HIGH FIVE!", he puts his hand up and lets you high five him, over and over. He doesn't actually do anything other than hold his hand out, but we consider it a skill nonetheless.

10 - He peed on my pillow this morning. Thanks Kadin.

Kadin enters the digital age, and Hasan & Tonia have an adult night (not THAT kind of adult!)

Santa was kind this year (though he did make me visit Futureshop at 5:23 AM on Boxing Day) and provided us with a nice new digital camera (Canon Powershot A85), so other than scanning a few remaining packs of film, GOODBYE STUPID UGLY SCANNER!

Here's one of the 300 pictures I've taken since 6 AM.

Now to go back a few days.

Last Wednesday night, Tonia and I were alone for the first time since September 7, 2003. Or at least, it sometimes feels that way! With the best possible babysitters in the world (Tonia's parents) protecting the world from caring for our darling son, we headed off to a fancy schmancy dinner at Maurya, a lovely Indian restaurant in Vancouver.

After filling ourselves to the point of being sick OR MAYBE BEYOND, we went out for a few drinks at Woody's pub on Brunnette. It was "ladies night" there, emphasized by the fact that of the 6 women in the entire bar, one of them was Tonia and 3 of them were waitresses. The rest wore jogging pants and had mullets.

Being the hard drinker that I am, after 2 pitchers of Keiths between us we headed home and talked a lot about how much we needed to pee the entire 3.43 minute walk.

Skip ahead two nights, and we're at Christmas Eve where after hours of setting everything up, we all headed to bed at around 2 AM. After sleeping ALL THE WAY until 5 AM, it was time to get up and start working on the turkey dinner!

I say "we" rather loosely, since Tonia did nearly everything while I kept pacing the hall for some reason, and helped cut a turnip in half. Kadin slept in until 6 AM, and we had a GRAND time opening his 9 billion gifts! Picture and video to be available soon.

Skip ahead to this morning, and at 5 AM I rolled out of bed to hit the local Futureshop for their boxing day sales. Specifically, I picked up this lovely Powershot A85, a 512 MB Sandisk Type II memory card, and 4 NiMH 2300 batteries+charger. By 6 AM I was home, hidden away in the room taking pictures of my feet and the walls.

Not just any foot, but a DIGITAL foot!

A wall. And Ernie. On the wall.

Guess who's heeeeeeeeeeeeeere..

On Wednesday, Kadin's nanny and poppy (Tonia's parents) arrived. Within about 9 minutes, Kadin quietly forgot that he ever had parents as his grand-parents very efficiently stole him from us...haha.

He's been a bit of a terror in the last few days though, mostly because we have the Christmas tree in the middle of the livingroom. Last year, he was all of 2 months old and was just barely able to lift his head, much less move.

This year, he runs to the tree, yanks a decoration off, then runs and hides on the other side of it when we try and get him to stop. Someone's getting a big, fat, chunky bag of coal!

Quickly

Daisy is OK and at home. She had four lumps removed and at least 3 of them were harmless but the other one we are waiting for results.

Nanny and Poppy will be here in about 5 hours and I have a LOT of cleaning to do. More later....

Daisy

My baby girl Daisy (my doggie) had a lump a few months ago and it never changed so we didn't get it removed. The other day we found one on her back. Went from black to red.

Daisy is having surgery today. They found two more lumps after we dropped her off this morning.

A lot going on right now as well getting ready for nanny and poppy who will be here tomorrow! Very excited about that!!

Keep your fingers crossed for my girl.

...

Yesterday was the Shaw childrens Christmas party at Crash Crawlies, so Kadin and I spent about 2 hours with probably 100 co-workers and their families. As Tonia's parents are coming into town on Wednesday, she opted to stay behind and get a head-start on some much needed cleaning!

It was a great time though. Last year, Kadin was only 2 months old, so his most athletic feat was staying awake for 10 minutes at a time. This year, he was able to play in a giant pit of plastic balls!!!!!!!! Now, he had a fantastic time doing that, but my little Kadin is an odd cookie.

Picture this. A GIANT PIT OF PLASTIC BALLS, and about 5 children aged 1 - 5 playing in it at any given time. Most children are entering from one side, walking around a bit, and exiting on the other side where the slides are. Kadin however, is quite content being buried up to his neck in the balls and not moving.

I stood beside him for like 15 minutes, watching his shaggy hair wave back and forth as he turned to watch the other children, but him not moving at all! I thought he was bored at one point and picked him up, but he cried until I put him back in and buried him again. When the head started sinking, I was then sure it was time to go.

....

Now it's bed time, good night!
