Today we had some lovely weather so Tonia, Kadin, Daisy and I went to the park.
We had a great time watching Kadin walk around kicking his soccer ball . As much fun as he had with the ball, he had even more fun standing in one spot for 20 minutes and methodically picking up every single leaf and twig and handing them to me, one by one.
We got home at around 2 PM, fairly close to Kadin's regular nap time. By 4 PM he still hadn't gone down for his nap, so we figured we would cut our losses and just go ahead with his supper.
For supper we had some pan fried cod we picked up at the market today. Kadin has had fish a few times, though the last time resulted in a bit of a situation.
He gobbled up the fish and the mashed potatoes, so we had every reason to believe all was well in the world. By 6 PM he had fallen asleep in my lap, so we decided to just put him down and see if he would sleep through the night.
Maybe 30 minutes later he woke up crying, so we brought him back out with us to see if he would last another hour until his regular bed time.
He continued crying quite steadily so we gave him his evening bottle to see if it wasn't just hunger. It wasn't; he vomitted suddenly and quite powerfully.
The next 2 hours were filled with a lot of heart-breaking crying resulting from about 5 incidents of vomitting. The obvious culprit is the fish, though it's a mystery why the last two times he's had this reaction when in the last 3 months he ate fish 2 or 3 times without incident.
In any event, having gone through this just a few weeks ago, our collective level of anxiety was much lower than before. We kept him hydrated, and at the time of this writing he's been asleep for just over 2 hours.
If his reaction is consistent with the last one, he should be in fine fighting form by tomorrow for trick or treating with some friends of ours.
I'll follow-up on how he's doing as soon as I get a chance tomorrow.
Watching Kadin fall asleep is amazing..I don't even mind that I am the only one who can do it...he is so cute, innocent and peaceful...LOVE IT!
Mommy is happy today cause her website is up and running. I am not linking from this site. Its my site and will have my thoughts and opinions and what nots....ssoooooo it may not be OK for all viewers. I mean who gives a sh!t what I think! heh But if you wanna look out of curiosity email me. :) mommy@pewfie.com.
Yesterday Kadin and I went to the bedroom to change his diaper. Once we got there Kadin was good enough to pick up the vaseline and wipes at the same time and put them on the bed...that's where I change him! WHAT!!?? He is so smart!
This weekend is Halloween, as we all know, and Kadin is sooo excited!
No but really I had it on him this morning and he liked it. Spent sometime checking himself out in the mirror. I'm real excited though. A good friend of Hasan's has invited us to go with her family. Very cool.
We will post some more pics of him in his suit soon.
Kadin has become rather...fussy..when it comes to sleep.
In the not-so-distant past, his routine was to get a bath at about 6:30, get his evening snack and last bottle for 7 PM, then by 7:30 or 8 at the LATEST, he would either be asleep in our arms or asleep within a few minutes of being put down into his crib.
Now, not so much.
He'll get his bath and snack around the same time, but despite the baggy "pisshole" eyes (taken from the saying "like pissholes in the snow"...heh) and general crankiness, he refuses to go to sleep any earlier than 8:30 or 9 PM. Even then, he NEVER falls asleep on his own. It requires either Tonia or myself to lie down with him in our bed and using nothing other than the AWESOME POWER OF OUR MINDS, will him to sleep.
This is a 15-60 minute process depending upon various factors such as his mood, windspeed, barometric pressure, and/or the phase of the moon. He'll go through various stages when falling asleep as well.
In no particular order:
1 - Smiling
2 - Laughing
3 - Screaming
4 - Banging his head on the wall
5 - Suddenly headbutting me in the face
6 - Screaming
7 - Screaming
8 - Pulling on the blinds
9 - Screaming
10 - Screaming
11 - Banging his head on the wall
12 - Snoring
Since I think I have some sort of combination of Attention Defecit Disorder and Narcalepsy, 99% of the time I fall asleep along with Kadin no matter how much I want to stay awake past 9 PM. I'll usually wake up briefly at like 2 AM , extremely disoriented, and with vague memories of Tonia trying to get me to push over before giving up on me with disgust.
Now I must clarify that all of the above is MY experience in putting him to bed.
Here's Tonia's:
1 - Wait for Hasan to work Kadin up to a screaming frenzy.
2 - Walk in, resulting in Kadin immediately stopping whatever he was doing.
3 - Count to 10, listen to Kadin drift off to sleep and start snoring.
4 - Leave the room.
5 - Mock Hasan.
Oh, his hair is long to the point of it starting to curl at the back of his head. VERY CUTE.
So apparently we're supposed to find some small amount of time each day updating his site. I'll be sure to sit Kadin down and let him know he has to budget his day a bit better.
Since Kadin's shots a week and change ago, he passed about 10 litres of really gross ( as opposed to the rare but quite lovely variety) snot while finally kicking the last of his cold.
Once he realized that he was once again physically well, he must have felt a bit confused and so decided to throw his sleeping schedule entirely out the door. The last few days have been a bit of a blur, but it all got really really bad on Thursday when he decided to stay awake until 11:30 PM. I think he was still awake at that point, but I'd had enough and just put him in the bed next to me and went to sleep. I used a strategically placed leg to make sure he was safe from falling out, and since he was still there in the morning I guess it worked!
On Friday he got his revenge.
Essentially, he didn't go to sleep until 9:30 or 10, then was up again at 11:30. He went back down soon after, then up again at 12:30 until about 3:30. Then he woke up again at 5:30, and dozed for a short period until 7 when he was fed up (!!) and started his day.
Even though were zombies, Tonia & I were troopers and went out for an hour or two to run some errands. He took a grand total of 36 minutes of naps that day, then slept for a fairly solid 12 hours last night.
............
He's napping now, so he might be going back on to some sort of schedule. WOoo!!
When we were all in the bedroom folding laundry earlier, he said "Daisy" while playing with Daisy and pulling her hair. To celebrate that momentous occasion, we let him run around naked for about 30 minutes until the risk of him peeing on the floor was too great to ignore.
Oh, a reminder for my family, the latest Newfoundland Pictures are up and ready for viewing!
On Thursday Kadin had his 12 month immunizations. Yes, he's over 13 months now, but it's been a rough couple of weeks for our little boy.
Since Tonia & Kadin were leaving for Newfoundland a day after his birthday, we had wanted to get his shots a week or so before so that he wouldn't be unduly cranky on the long flight. The public health unit said they preferred to wait until after the birthday, and it would be fine to have it done upon his return to BC.
Of course, within days of getting to Newfoundland he got the measles.
When he got back he had projectile vomiting due to a bad fish incident.
Then he got a cold which has led to really, really gross snot for about a week now.
So yeah, it's been a fun couple of weeks for him! But back to our story..
As Tonia had caught Kadin's cold, she stayed home to rest while I took Kadin to the public health nurse for his shots.
Overall it actually went really well. Instead of three shots in his legs, this time it was one in the thigh and one in the arm. The arm proved tricky, as he actually jerked violently when the needle went in. I almost threw up on the spot, but it went out cleanly and didn't cause any bleeding. So the nurse just went at it again and within about 90 seconds total, his shots were done.
He had the big fat THERE IS A NEEDLE STICKING IN MY ARM AND IT REALLY HURT FOR A SECOND tears for a few minutes, but a bottle put him at ease right away.
Now as painful a process as his shots always are, it was fun seeing him play with the other kids in the waiting area. One of them was standing quietly staring at Kadin. So Kadin stretches out his arms and walks towards him with a HUGE grin on his face, then pokes him in the eye. The kid didn't react at all, so I quietly turned Kadin to face in a different direction and we both toddled off...
Then that same kid was playing with a small plastic shopping cart. Kadin put his hand on it, so the kid screamed and yanked the cart into a different direction. Kadin laughed and put his hand on it again, then the kid wailed so hard his mother took him away.
After much amusement at the expense of other children, both of us headed home to Tonia who was convinced I was going to come home with a Chinese baby or something...heh.
All is well with the world. Except of course the fact that green baby snot is really, really, really gross.
Oh, we took the password protection off the site because..well, nobody ended up visiting anymore. We've kept the family tree section password protected, and you may have noticed some other small changes on the right. Wheee!
This morning I watched Kadin empty one of his toy boxes minutes after I filled it. He has three. One for large sized toys, one for medium sized toys and one for the small things.
I started to tell Hasan how he plays with each toy. He finds the little thing he likes about it and plays with it that way. Kadin rarely plays with a toy the way it is suppose to be played with. By that I mean how the instructions say it should be used, how the ad looked on TV etc....
I then went into a frenzy worrying about the way other kids play with their toys. Seems the kids on TV commercials for these toys are playing with them perfectly and never seem to need another toy around them....anywhere. Nor do they need anyone to show them. The toy is so brilliant that they just pick it up. Kadin NEVER does this!
For example the toy we gave him for his birthday. The snail that has shaped holes for placing blocks into. I assured Hasan this would teach Kadin shapes and patience and all the good stuff. He broke the thing up into 3 pieces. Not broken but you get the idea. He uses the body to put anything into and shake about for the noise and he uses the flat bottom part - that the head of the snail use to be attached to - to press the musical button over and over and over...and over again. That's it. That's how he plays with that toy.
I have shown him many times how it works and what he should do but he isn't interested. And this pattern is apparent with all of his toys. So I ask (the 2.1 people who read this site...) how does/did your kid play with toys? Am I failing? Am I not creating the perfect play environment for Kadin?
I doubt it. Seems he is a boy and a baby still. And someday he will get it. Besides Hasan assured me that these ads I am talking about are staged!!!???!! WHAT??! I had no idea! heh
I take some comfort in the fact that Kadin at one point would NEVER sit still for a book. Not even look at the pages. Could have cared less. Now I read Peppy the Puppy and Fun at the Circus about 48 times a day. As well Kadin spends a lot of his alone play time with his books. The other stuff just doesn't matter when Peppy calls his name.
So I relent and take comfort in knowing that right now he plays with the toys in pieces but sadly someday he will actually break them into pieces. Boys will be boys.
Oh and to end today's post Kadin's hair was in a ponytail earlier. HE INSISTED! He saw mommy's hair elastic and was adamant about having one in his hair. It was cute and I thought at first it would make me want to have a baby girl someday and although I know Hasan and I have plans for more kids soon - hopefully - a house full of boys would be just fine as well. Either way.....
I know EXACTLY how this chick feels. Except my thing is telling Hasan every detail of the Oprah show! hehe

I have all the pics named Newf Trip-S.9.04 to S. 30.04 - up. Enjoy!!!
So I wanted to take a moment on behalf of Kadin and myself and say how proud we are of Hasan/Abu.
I don't know if you have seen the Family Tree but it is outstanding. The time and thought Hasan has put into this has been amazing and we are very thankful for it. Kadin will be able to look back someday and see all of this and that is so important to us. Hasan and I that is.
Hasan has spent hours upon hours on the tree and as he should be, is very proud of it. We love you baby. Thank you. From, Tonia & Kadin
And as I am sure you can see Hasan has next to no information from me. Procrastinate is indeed my middle name....SHHH!
But there is hope for me. I shall prevail. I will ask my mother to get the information for him. And he will love me again.
Finally I would like to end this post looking better then Hasan, so I will tell you that Hasan accidentally fed Kadin very spicy taco filling the other day instead of the allotted no-spice filling I had taken out for him. SO THERE...HMPH! ;)
So on Wednesday Kadin started throwing up around 2 pm. Just after he had 2 bouts of bad poopy. He proceeded to throw up every 15 minutes for about 2 hours. We took him to the hospital and they basically determined what I had before we went - stomach flu or something he ate didn't agree with him. Later that evening after getting home from the hospital Kadin got better quickly and all is well.
Guess it was something he ate! Watching him urge and lose his breathe as he threw up was really hard. It was so bad that he would fall asleep but then actually wake to throw up. Poor little guy.
Kadin is a bit of a kisser now too. He likes to blow kisses and he also makes sound when kissing. Ya know that sorta smacking sound....hard to describe but hopefully you get it.
A friend came by last night and like his usual self Kadin was all over it. Holding hands with her and blowing her kisses. Not shy one bit. He is such a little charmer who loves the ladies. :)
And now as he screams into his abu's shoulder cause he don't wanna sleep I end by telling you he is getting his one year pictures done today.
The only downfall to pretending to eat the small, slimy, droll covered bits of food your baby is giving you, is that you have a super baby and he now pretends to eat the food as well. heh
Hasan taught Kadin to blow on his food when its hot. He picked it up pretty quick and now AFTER Kadin puts food in his mouth he is sure to blow on it/it out to ensure it coolness.
We are weaning Kadin now. Two days of 1 oz. in the glass and 3 in the bottle. Then two days of 2 and 2...I'm sure you see where I am going with this. Kadin does not use a sippy cup properly however. He waits for mommy to hold it up for him while he screams into the sippy part. He drinks well out of a glass glass - yes yes, glass glass - but still mommy has to hold it. I guess we will fill him with yogurt in order for him to get his proper amount of dairy. Ack that sounded bad read back. Moving on....
Kadin is currently feeding Daisy every piece of melon I cut up for him. Seems they have formed some sort of bond...Kadin throws all his food away and Daisy eats it. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?????? heh
As well I would like to finish this email with a disclaimer. I am a good mother. I am a good mother. I am a good mother.
Kadin fell off the sofa while sleeping today. He's ok.
As well I let Kadin sleep in the bed with me the entire time we were in Newf. Yes yes I can hear all of you sigh. Now of course he will have nothing to do with the crib. We gave him ample time to recover from his trip and last night we put him in the crib and around 10 pm he woke and screamed for 30 mins.
I can't wait to have another baby. :)
PS - I will put the trip pics up before this weekend ends.
It has been 2 days since we got home. Kadin was at first weary of Hasan at the airport...seems his abu decided to grow a beard while we were gone. I would also like to add that the same abu was late to the airport. I hate city traffic....
Our trip was amazing. Three weeks went by fast - even faster considering Kadin was sick for about 6 of those days and it rained for about 3 days straight. We all sorta felt like there were things we didnt get done but hey we are still working with a baby's schedule.
Everyone was amazed with Kadin and all the smart little things he picked up. For example although I had been showing him for some time he decided to save the actions to Pat-A-Cake for nanny and poppy. He pats, he rolls and he has a good time. He also likes to do some of the actions to All-Around-The-Garden, Kadin knows the way to open a door and depending on the height of the door knob he is very good at it.
He says "Dat?" when pointing at any object.
He repeats "Doh tuh..." and giggles like a hellion when told "Don't touch" something.
Kadin has learned to climb stairs with some small amount of assistance which he VERY begrudgingly takes and knows to turn over on his belly to get down from high places.
He adores making motor sounds to anything he thinks should move like a quad which by the way he fell asleep on going home from his Gauntie Wanda's and Guncle Perry's cabin.
Kadin likes to call his poppy Ya-Ya and he called his nanny "nan"about 3 days after we got there.
Kadin had Mary Brown's for the first time. Kadin went on a boat for the first time. Kadin rode a wheel barrow for the first time. He went to his first birthday party. He went to Jungle Jim's for dinner and insisted on taking his shirt off...for the entire meal.
Kadin let mommy go out with friends and with nanny and have an awesome time.
Kadin got a severe diaper rash which would bleed. He got a fever of 104 degrees. He was prescribed penicilian for swollen glands because he had the flu. Kadin got the measles and we realized his 3 day fever with "swollen glands" were all a part of that and we stopped the penicilian. Kadin busted his lip open playing with some stupid wooden doll in my parents house. Kadin sat on a very hot heater and burnt the backs of his legs. He also touched a wood stove and burnt his hand. And finally he ran into a wall at the hotel our last night and gave himself a huge bump on the head.
I hate the really hard cry. The one where we makes the first bawl and then there is a silent scream building up for way too long where you think he can't be breathing and he will certainly die from crying. And finally when the scream comes it is the loudest thing you have heard since the Blink 182 concert of 2002. hehe
Have I crammed in too much?
I have MANY pics and will put them up as soon as I'm done recovering. Sooo tired. Kadin got up at 4:30 am yesterday and 4:45 am this morning. Seems I'm on the same schedule.
Since getting home Kadin now blows on his food he thinks to be too hot.
Soooooo much learning. OH did I mentioned he likes to sit with a book and read by himself???? He takes his little book and quietly turns the pages while making "Bah bah bah....bahbah bah..." sounds. Amazing.
If I missed anything I'll add as days go by.
Finally our little Grady has a new home. He was adopted yesterday by a great family and today we are gonna go see his new digs. We are very sad about this but know he will be happier with them. They loved him right away and he seemed at ease with the whole thing. Now we are a family of four and our hearts hurt.
