One small step for man...

...one giant leap for new parents!

Tonia and I took the final step to completing Kadin's room today by moving his crib there. Tonight we're going to go our first night with Kadin sleeping in his room.

She's chewed off all of her fingers, and I've taken to drinking heavily. Haha.

Updates to follow, provided we make it through the night...

Ode to the X-Box

Kadin & I are hard at work playing on the X-Box, and convincing Tonia that games are far more important than say...rent or food.

I'm still working out the kinks in my business proposal to her. You know, the one where I quit my job and play on the X-box professionaly. Kadin will lead an exciting life on the road, going with me from town to town, playing games in exchange for food and little snatches of education.

We'll have a fine time, and he'll by a better person for the experience!

Ok, but seriously. I haven't given my soul to any gaming console, nor do I plan on turning my son into some sort of freakish wandering gamer. But a father can dream....

Picture Time and Advice Needed

Today we pick up Kadin's Christmas pictures - well they aren't all Christmas pictures. I cannot tell you how excited I am to see them. Now just so everyone knows these will not be put on the site until after Xmas. We just want everyone to see them for the first time during the holidays. Trust me...they are worth the wait. :)

Well a few updates. I don't know if people can tell when they look into the gallery how big Kadin is but it's unbelievable. He has grown so much and continues to. I put a t-shirt on him today that we bought about a month ago. Its a 6-9 month shirt. And it just fits. As in, it probably won't after Xmas. OH well.....I don't know if I wrote it before but when we had his shots done he was 15 lbs and 2 oz. That was umm...two weeks ago I think. Keep in mind of course that Kadin will be 11 weeks this coming Monday.

Hasan and I got a few gifts for Kadin last night. One is a musical gym that goes from being a floor toy to being a stand up one. And with that we received a free crib activity centre. Pretty cool.

Oh and I bought Hasan an XBox for his birthday. Its not until next week - on the 4th - but we were there so I said what the hell.

Ummm I think that's about it for now. Oh wait here is something I would like for people to comment on..as in give advice.

Kadin still wakes at night for a feeding. Depending on what time he goes to sleep he will wake after 6 hours (sometimes sooner) regardless for a feeding. I have tried weening him with the water/formula mix but if 6 hours have passed he is way too hungry for that to be satisfying. Many people have told Hasan and I that at 12 weeks he can sleep 8-10 hours without waking for a feeding. However he may wake because he is simply thirsty.

Any suggestions everyone?

Oops and Memories

I suck. I wanted to say a special thank you to Nanny and Poppy from Kadin. They sent him some beautiful gifts the other day and I completely forgot to mention them. He got some awesome Xmas ornaments for the tree and a plate and cup for Santa's treats. Nanny and Poppy also sent Kadin a "Baby's First Christmas" stocking as well as a keepsake kit for his first hair cut, his first tooth and a gorgeous pic frame.

Uncle Dwayne sent a very cute T-Bear which says the "Now I lay me Down to Sleep" prayer. Is there another name for it? I couldn't think of it.

We also got copies of his birth announcement in the local Marystown peper. I'll scan it in in a bit.

And well not to down play those gifts but the greatest thing I got were my Disney books from when I was a kid. They are in awesome shape and will definitely come in handy. I mean I cried when I saw these things. They brought back so many memories.

Thanks mom......

I Give Up

Even though it is a day late - Eid Mubarik everyone.

I have asked Hasan a few times to make an entry for a holiday his family celebrates - Eid - and he has yet to do it. I honestly would write more about it myself but I know he knows way more then me and would be better to do it. I'll keep pestering and hopefully he will give in eventually. As I understand it the actual Eid day is Nov. 25th the day after fasting ends. But does change yearly.

I will however say that Kadin's Aba jan and Achi Ami sent him gifts - called Eidee - for the holiday and they are awesome! Kadin was lucky enough to get a beautiful sleeper which he will fit into later and an amazing learning toy from Leap Frog.
His Aba jan and Achi Ami also wrote Kadin a beautiful letter which was touching and helped explain the holiday to him. The letter we will keep as a memory for him and for us.

Thanks everyone...and keep leaving those comments. OR start if you haven't yet. :)

HEN NIGHT

heh......Well in my hometown tonite there is a gathering. It is not only a gathering of people....but of women. It is not only a gathering of women.....but the Hanrahan women. They like to call it Hen Night.

Now I don't want to give away their secrets but sometimes....well Hen Night can involve this and maybe a little of that.

Sometimes these beautiful, gorgeous women like to maybe gossip....but only a little....mmhmmm just a little...I mean it....seriously....just a little gossip.

Hen Night never involves anything unlady like...for example...knitting and certainly there are NEVER any men. And no hens ever go home angry.....drunk yes....but not angry! :)

Hanrahan Hen Night is a special time for these gals to get together...to indulge, to smile, to discuss important social issues, to laugh until they pee themselves and to go home realizing how important the night was to them.

I wish I could be there ladies....and without being too mushy (cause of all that alcohol I know sobbing would ensue) know that I miss you all dearly and that I ask you keep your fingers crossed for Kadin, Hasan and I to make it home in the New year.

Now get off the computer....have a drink for me and remember what these nights are about - family, good times and friendship. Kiss....kiss....

Suck-a-thumb

I think that's what my family called me for years. Yes I did suck my thumb...and for way too long. Probably cause everyone wanted me to stop so badly it seemed. Even then I rebelled. :) Well I don't know if it's hereditary but I may have a case that says it is.

Yes my beloved son Kadin spends much time everyday trying to get that thing into his mouth. It's funny to watch actually. I mean I feel bad for laughing my ass off at him but I can't help it. I don't know if you can picture it....

.....his arm extended as he looks in the complete opposite direction of the thumb location. He struggles to bring the hand close to his face...sometimes he misses....other times he pokes himself in the eye or nose.....and then other times he nails it.

Gets that thumb right in there he does. However at this point, Kadin does not know his thumb, he wants so desperately, is attached to his hand which is attached to his arm...his arm that he immediately pulls away after he believes himself to be successful. heh

Maybe it's a "You had to be there" situation....

Should I feel guilt for laughing so hard? Should I be helping him with this? I don't think so. I mean he doesn't *really* know I'm laughing at him and he has to learn on his own right? Let it be said though I won't call him a suck-a-thumb.

Oh and the good news this entry...Kadin seems to be falling into a routine. Up at 6ish...eat...back to bed till 10ish....bath...eat...short nap....eat around 2:30ish...nap till 5ish...eat at 7ish...nap till 11ish...quick snack and then off to bed for another day. Of course there is lots of awake time in here.

Hmmmm do all the "ish's" really mean its a routine? I think so. :)

The look in his eyes....

Ok so for anyone out there who is a mom or dad and has taken their child to have their first shots will relate to this entry. It was horrible. I mean I was a wreck all day waiting for it and I wasn't any better when the time came. Kadin was hungry at the time and the nurse suggested feeding him while she did it. Three shots in total - 2 in one leg and 1 in the other. So I fed my baby and while he stared into my eyes the nurse stuck the needles in....one by one.

His loving, content look quickly turned to shock and then was followed with the worse sound I have ever heard in my life. Kadin screamed and cried...so hard in fact that he was coughing and chocking on his milk. *SIGH* It was heartbreaking. And anyone who knows me probably expected me to lose it but I remained calm and did what I could to reassure him that I loved him and everything was ok.

It hurts even now to write about it.

I hope everyone is continuing to read the site and look at the pics. OH and please leave comments. Someday whether the site is up or not Kadin will be able to read all of this and it would be awesome for him to see what family and friends had to say.

Things Went Well

Well he was a little fussy at first but quickly got over it. The girls had this amazing tin can they shook and shook....seemed to do the job. The pics came out great and we spent lotsa money so everyone can see them. We had 4 Xmas type shots done and some non-Xmas shots as well. We aim to please. :)

Kadin was a little hero and made me very proud. And just wait till you see these pics...................

Pics, Pics and Shots

So again this task is left up to me...but I like it.

So a few updates. First there are new pictures in the gallery. Have a looksie and feel free to leave comments telling us how amazingly cute he is! ;)

As well yesterday we went to get Kadin's portraits done at Sears. I mean we already feel like bad parents waiting this long to get them done...but well needless to say it didn't go as planned. First off when we got there Kadin was great. He was happy, awake and very handsome. However the Sears photo team were running behind and by the time they got to us Kadin was asleep. So we woke him slightly and then sat him in the position she told us to for picture taking...he then proceeded to cry. Kadin did that for maybe 5 minutes and then went fast to sleep again.

He absolutely refused to wake this time. Odd thing about it is the Sears girl thought I might want to take the pictures with him asleep. Hmmmm....NO! She was kind enough to give us a free sheet based on the fact he was awake when we got there and they were running late. Yeah Sears girl!

So we are rescheduled for today....and my stress not only continues but is somewhat hightened by the poor results of yesterday.

So that's Pics, Pics....what's left you might ask? Well on Monday my little baby gets his first shots. I can assure you I too may need shots that day...but with something a little more sedative. I will let y'all know how it goes.

Don't forget to look at the news pics in the gallery!!!

Sleepy Head

Since Hasan has been bad when it comes to updating I thought I would take a stab at it. I guess there are a few things that have happened we should relay. As we know Halloween just passed and although we didn't take Kadin out (he wouldn't remember and his toothless grin doesn't allow him candy....just yet) we did dress him up for pics and what not. He was a bumblebee as Hasan mentioned earlier. Very cute..however Kadin lasted about 3 minutes before the screaming began!! I'm sure he will appreciate it at a later date. :)

Ok and the biggest news.....he actually slept through the night....twice. Once for me on Thursday night passed from about 12 to 6! WOOHOO! And then of course once for Hasan...Friday night. Our wonderful little boy slept from 11 pm to 7 am!! WOW you might say right? Well we thought it nothing given how special he is....we knew he had it in him! Needless to say we were very grateful for the extra winks and later said a prayer to the great god of sleep.....noooo not Baby Tylenol. *grin*

Ok so Kadin is screaming for me right now....gotta go.
